GETTING READY FOR EVO! evo.gg

I’ve been focusing all of my energy on training and learning the game. Going into the tournament I am using Dhalsim, Ken & Rashid. I dabbled in Rashid in SFV especially using his Airman costume. Rashid honestly feels like a natural pick for how I like to play and honestly his match up spread is pretty good imo.

Rashid is actually very easy to pick up and not hard to pilot at all especially if you have prior experience with him. They kind of copy and pasted the characters functions (not in a bad way) but did a different take on his gameplan. Biggest difference to me is he can’t challenge projectiles as easily as he could before.

FT20 vs NYChrisG’s Rashid to learn the match up

In SFV he could roll on reaction to projectiles making them useless vs him and his dive kick he could use to navigate in the air. In 6 he doesn’t have a auto anti-projectile move and instead of a dive kick he has a double jump but its not so easy to use to navigate. He has nothing to go through projectiles outside of his lvl 3. He is still quite fast and has his tornado he can use to trade or win vs other projectiles. His ex version will win versus normal projectiles.

He still has crazy pressure but it mostly comes from knock downs. TBH winning neutral with him is not hard. This is the first character I’ve picked that feels like hes a great match up vs everyone.

But I also understand how to fight him. Challenge him through his tornados which happen to be 17 frame start up and don’t let him charge tornado in neutral. A lot of EX/OD projectiles will pass through and win forcing him to use his OD/EX tornado. TBH most annoying things with him is his pressure off charged tornado, lvl 2 super tornado, throw loop, drive rush f+hp overhead and f+hk which is one of those jump normals to jump over people sticking out cr mk like normals.

People I think are capping about his anti airs. His Heavy spinning mixer is just as good as ever for anti airing if you got good reactions. Hits on both sides too so ggs to cross ups. He also can kara cancel his jump qcb kick move the double jump so if people try to throw loop him he can do that to punish you for attempting it. Making it more difficult to pin him down.

That’s another thing people complain about throw loops but throw loops definitely have counter play.

– Back dash the throw

– Tech the throw

– Reversal with OD or super

– Character specific stuff like Dhalsim drills, Rashid’s double jump etc

I’m aware you can be shimmied or hit but that is apart of the game. No one is going to make the correct decision 100% of the time. Its all about the conditioning between you and your opponent at that point. Which is apart of fighting games in general. So embrace the situation and do what you can do to deal with it.

People forget when you throw tech they are pushed a good distance away.

Rashid is definitely top tier though. OD Reversal, LVL 1 and LVL 3 invincible supers.

One of the quickest dashes in the game. Can get out of the corner better than most characters too. Plus on block normals without the need for drive rush. Tornado is a solid zoning tool that also anti airs as well as travels on the ground. Eagle spike while unsafe is pretty good for catching people off guard or checking their screen presence.

My main focus is Street Fighter 6 this year. I DID enter MK11. I don’t have plans on showing up to play because I want to save all of my energy for sf6 (7,000 person tournament and the game is very demanding mentally and physically) but I could change my mind day of.

MK11 begins at 10 am for me and SF6 is at 3 pm. Its better to conserve energy for SF6 tbh.

Walking around the convention center which is like being on a football field can drain you so its best to stay in one spot. I have tested a lot of different strats over the years going to EVO and its best I stick to 1 or 2 games. Nothing to do with ability its more so the battle against tournament fatigue. These days events are draining making you wait for stream matches or just waiting for people to finish their matches. It can ice you if it goes on too long. Being iced is like when you have hot coffee but wait too long to drink it so its lukewarm or cold now.

I think we all benefit from warming up before we play and you don’t want to go into a match not warmed up. But you also don’t want to warm up and wait too long before you can play again or it can cost you. Then also you can wear yourself out having to out think strong opponents all the time cause it DOES require energy to do so. This is why tier lists and brackets matter because what you use and fight can give you a better chance vs tournament fatigue.

A lot to think about yea? Haha.

I’ll be streaming practice matches leading up to when I leave for EVO. If you are at least diamond feel free to come by for matches. Follow the stream: https://twitch.tv/perfectlegend
