Game Fu Way of the Digital Fist

eBook

Understand why you’re losing. Know what to work on.

You put time into practice. You learn the combos. Then you get into a match and lose in the same situations again.

What should you work on? How do you recognize what your opponent is doing? What do you change when your first plan stops working?

Game Fu: Way of the Digital Fist helps you understand the decisions behind stronger play, so you can approach practice and competition with a clearer purpose.

Build skills you can take into your next game.

The game, character and mechanics can change. Your ability to recognize situations, understand your opponent and adapt can grow with you.

Inside Game Fu, you’ll learn how to:

  • Practice with direction. Identify recurring problems and give your training a purpose beyond repeating combos.
  • Recognize situations sooner. Develop your awareness so you have a clearer idea of what to look for and how to respond.
  • Understand your opponent. Notice habits, recognize patterns and make adjustments as the match develops.
  • Play with more control. Think about positioning, precision and the decisions that put you in a better situation.
  • Stay composed under pressure. Approach setbacks and comeback situations with clearer thinking.
  • Become less predictable. Understand how your own patterns affect the choices your opponent makes.

Understand the thinking behind the advice.

Knowing which move to use is useful. Understanding why you’re using it helps you decide when to change your approach.

Game Fu connects practical fighting game advice with the mindset behind learning, adapting and competing. It uses plain language, so you can follow the ideas without already knowing the community’s vocabulary.

Whether you’re learning your first fighting game or bringing years of experience to a new one, the focus is on skills you can apply across 2D, 3D and platform fighters.

Learn from my experience.

I’m Carl “Perfect Legend” White, a five-time world champion, author and coach. My competitive experience spans multiple fighting games, including EVO titles in Dead or Alive 4 and Mortal Kombat 9.

I’ve spent years learning new games, testing different approaches and figuring out why things work. I’ve also made mistakes, hit walls and had to change how I played.

I wrote Game Fu to share the knowledge and thought processes I’ve developed along the way, and help you make better use of the time you put into your game.

“The table of contents was like….what?! He’s gonna talk about all of this? He was talking about how to make comebacks and then the way he wrote about adapting was cold. I’m gonna put my ego aside and say this book may level me up!”

“That’s the book that will REALLY help out the community. People need to know that information! It’s a good book and as fighting games continue to grow, it could be a catalyst for newbies to use and get more acclimated into them. You hit the nail on the head with your descriptions and advice.”
